Varicose Vein Surgical Removal (Microphlebectomy)
Vein Removal (Microphlebectomy)
Do you have unsightly, dilated veins on various areas of your body that you would like to have removed?
In the past, surgery on varicose veins surgery was the only treatment available. Thankfully, there are now many minimally invasive procedures that can be just as effective, if not more so. Microphlebectomy is one such treatment.
Occasionally, some veins form in the context of minimal reflux that is not detected by ultrasound. If they are painful or cosmetically unappealing, these vessels need to be removed through a procedure called microphlebectomy. This too can be performed using minimal invasive technology: tiny incision, local anesthesia and very short recovery time.
Medilaser, Cosmetic Surgery and Vein Center offers microphlebectomy surgery to remove unsightly varicose veins through 3mm incisions. After the procedure, the pain is minimal and the return to work is immediate. The cosmetic result of this procedure is dramatic since the corresponding incisions are so small that the scar formation is minimal if any at all.
What is Microphlebectomy?
Microphlebectomy is a treatment for veins in a leg. It differs from surgery on varicose veins because it is a minor, in-office procedure. The area will be numbed, then series of small nicks will be made in the skin. As veins are flexible and easily collapsible, even large veins can be removed this way.
This procedure is often done to complement varicose vein laser removal, or can be done on its own. Microphlebectomy will generally offer relief from varicose veins that are painful and will also improve the appearance of the veins in your leg. When you come to our vein clinic in Frisco, Texas, our staff will evaluate your veins and come up with a custom treatment plan for you.
What happens during a Microphlebectomy?
The Microphlebectomy procedure takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour and will be done in-office at the vein centers in Frisco. Dr. Giraldo is the best vein doctor in Frisco, Allen, Celina, Prosper, McKinney or any other North Texas city and will make sure to take excellent care of you. Here is the process you can expect:
- Review of medical history – this is where past medical history, family medical history and medications or allergens are discussed to come up with an appropriate treatment plan for the veins.
- The area around the vein will be cleaned and sterilized.
- Your vein will be injected with a numbing medication.
- A series of small nicks will be made in the skin surrounding the vein. You will not be able to feel these as the area is completely numb.
- The vein is removed – this is done with a special instrument with a hook on the end.
- Bandages are placed over the nicks. There is no need for stitches as the nicks are very small.
- Your leg will be wrapped. At this point, you need to refrain from normal activities for about 24 hours, or instructed by Dr. G. You will also need to wear compression stockings for 2-3 weeks afterwards and should avoid strenuous exercise during this timeframe.
